I was the director of El Centro de Amistad y Apoyo, and taught grades 1st-4th there during the 8 years I served there. El Centro, in Cochabamba, Bolivia, is a center for underprivileged, rural kids. After a decade in Bolivia, I'm now back in Colorado, where I am K/1st grade teacher at a local school.

Beauty
God is good. He provides for my needs each morning. Laughter for my soul, beauty in nature for my heart, and a community to keep my life balanced.
Even though I've lived in Bolivia for a total of 8 months, each morning brings something new. Here are a few from this week:
1. a dangerous scorpion in my closet, then on me, then thrown to my pillowcase, then thrown outside with a scream (much to the amusement of my Bolivian neighbors) and FINALLY, crushed with a shoe
2. obstacles on my run, including a large herd of disgruntled pigs, boys hiding in the bushes to ambush me with water balloons, and beautiful wildflowers every 100 ft
3. the road turned river every morning when I try to walk down to school. I need galoshes or a flat-bottomed boat!
On Thursday, I got to visit Villa Israel for the first time since returning to Coch, and it did my heart good to see the kiddos. They've really changed since I was last there, but in so many ways, it felt the same. I hope to continue to stay involved in the kids lives, at both orphanages and the Center whenever I can after school. I've found that I still do have energy after school, and it's been great to reconnect with lots of friends.

Kati!! I'm so ashamed to say that this was the first time I've ever read your blog. I think that I never knew(or remembered) that you had one! It was so great. I'm super happy to get my Katie dose of the day, and as usual your insights challenged me. :)
You are so beautiful. I have so much to learn from you. Keep writing lots!
Friend, I am so sorry it has taken me so long to reply to this blog. It was wonderful to see what your life is like there, or at least pieces of it.
My arms are around you it thought,
I am glad you have beautiful blooms to put in wine bottles there, too. It reminds me of the gifts you would make in Spokane...
Love to you.
